The word "Bon" in the Bali dialect means "children," so Bon Makah translates to "Makah's Children." My late sister Makah, who passed away in 2009, had no children of her own. This orphanage stands as a tribute to her, becoming a home for the children she never had. Currently, the orphanage was designed to house up to 30 kids. Today it is permanent residence for 12 children. It also functions as a resource center for other orphanages and women's empowerment training programs.
The home is overseen by a full-time director who handles day-to-day administration, new intakes, staff supervision, purchases, and visitations. Our team also includes a cook, a caretaker/security guard, a part-time cleaner, and an on-call nurse to oversee new intakes and health needs.
We work closely with the Office of Social Welfare in Cameroon for orphan recommendations and administrative guidance. Each child receives a health check during intake to establish a medical record, followed by doctor visits every six months.
Our dedicated staff treat the children with kindness and compassion, tirelessly working to create a family-like atmosphere. The orphanage provides not only the basic necessities but also emotional support and educational opportunities, ensuring that each child has the chance to thrive. From assisting with homework to organizing games and outings, the staff is deeply involved in the children's lives, fostering their growth and happiness.
At the Bon Makah Orphanage & Resource Center, the children find a place where they are valued and loved—a true home that supports their dreams and aspirations.
